What are the features of life-threatening acute asthma?

Use the mneumonia 33 92 CHEST

A
  • <33% PEFR
  • <92% SpO2
  • Cyanosis
  • Hypotension / bradycardia
  • Exhaustion / poor resp effort
  • Silent chest
  • Tired + confusion

!! a normal PCO2 in acute asthma indicates exhaustion and classified as life threatening !!

What is the management of acute asthmas? Use meumonic O SHIT ME

A

*Oxygen (15L non-rebreath)

  • Salbutamol nebs 5mg
  • Hydrocortison 200mg IV or 40mg Pred oral
  • Ipratropium 500mcg neb with oxygen

  • Theophylline
  • Magnesium sulphate

*Contact critical care outreach team/anaesthetics if required
