Active Transport Flashcards
What is active transport?
Active transport is the movement of ions and molecules through the cell membrane from a lower concentration of the ions/ molecules to a higher concentration of the ions/ molecules.
Does active transport require energy? Why?
Yes. Because it moves ions/molecules against a concentration gradient.
What substance moves through the cell membrane by active transport?
Sodium.
Do the particles move from low to high or high to low concentration?
Low to high
Do the particles move down or against a concentration gradient?
Against
Is energy required?
Yes
Is active transport passive or active?
Active
In an investigation to find the weight change of potato cubes in different sucrose concentrations. The best reason to compare the percentage change is the
Potato cubes were not the same weight at the start.
Explain why the pond plant cells need large numbers of mitochondria.
More mitochondria do more aerobic respiration which make more energy for more active transport.
