Scene 1 Summary
- Comedic relief after the tension as Cassio figures out how to speak to Desdemona to be reinstated
‘Masters play here I will content your pains’
Cassio - Willing to pay for entertainment that looks comedic to the audience in order to get his position back
‘If the gentlewoman that attends the general’s wife be stirring, tell here there’s one Cassio entreats her a little favour of speech’
Cassio - Desperation makes him blind to the fact that he is falling into Iago’s trap
‘I am sorry for your displeasure but all will sure be well, the general and his wife are talking of it and she speaks for you stoutly’
Emilia - Typical image of the doting woman
‘He might not but refuse you but he protests he loves you’
Emilia - Offers some form of consolation whilst being honest with Cassio about the situation he finds himself in
‘I am much bound to you’
Cassio - Never wavers in his respect despite the fact that he is inherently upset about it
