ACNS Flashcards
3 reasons why EO/EC are important to be performed on clinical EEG
- Some rhythms can be masked by alpha activity with EC
- Helps attenuate cerebral activity from eye movement
- Some paroxysmal activity can only be seen with EO/EC
What is the minimal amount of recording time acceptable when performing clinical EEG?
At least 20 min satisfactory recording
What is the correct documentation a clinical EEG record should contain
- name and age of patient
- date
- ID number
- name/ initials of tech
What are the appropriate filter settings during an ECS/ECI study?
HFF= no less then 30 hz LFF= no more then 1 hz
What is the interelectrode distance requirement when performing an ECS/ ECI study?
At least 10 cm
What are the interelectrode impedance requirements when performing on EEG to determine ECS/ECI?
Under 10,000 ohms but more than 100 ohms
What is the minimal number of scalp electrodes required when performing an EEG to determine ECI?
A full set should used whenever possible
What electrode impedance requirements when performing a clinical EEG?
Should not exceed 10,000ohms
Why is the use of the 60 hz filter discouraged when performing EEG?
60 hz filter can distort or attenuate or attenuate spikes and should only be used when other measures against 60 hz fail
What are the appropriate filter setting when performing clinical EEG?
LFF= no higher than 1 hz HFF= no lower than 70 hz
What is the minimal number of scalp electrodes required when performing clinical EEG?
All Z1 electrodes and placement following the 10-20 system should be used
