very severe acne
systemic upset
hospital admission needed - responds to oral steroids

classification of acne
A
- mild: open and closed comedones with or without sparse inflammatory lesions
- moderate acne: widespread non-inflammatory lesions and numerous papules and pustules
- severe acne: extensive inflammatory lesions, which may include nodules, pitting, and scarring

mx of acne
A
- topical retinoid / benzoyl peroxide
- topical combination therapy (topical antibiotic, benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoid)
- oral tetracycline (erythromycin in pregnancy) max 3mo
- always co-prescribe topical retinoid or benzyl peroxide
- COCP - dianette
- oral isotretinoin
