Acids, Bases, and Neutralisation Flashcards
Salt
A chemical compound formed through a reaction between an acid or a base where a hydrogen has been replaced by metal ion or an aluminium ion
Strength (of an acid)
The degree to which an acid disscoiates
Strong acid
An acid that completely dissociates in an aqueous solution (foreward reaction favoured)`
Weak acid
An acid that partially dissociates in aqueous solution (partially dissociates in aqueous solution)
Oxidation States
A measure of the number of electrons an atom uses to bond with atoms of another element
Halogens oxidation numbers rule
F will ALWAYS have -1 oxidation number while other halogens are USUALLY -1 when bonded to low electronegativity elements
Disproportionation
Some atoms of an element are oxidised and other atoms of the same element are reduced in the same reaction
