Acids And Alkalis Flashcards
1
Q
Hydroxide ions are released when
A
Alkalis dissolve in water
2
Q
When HCl dissolves in water it gives
A
Hydroxuim and chloride ions
3
Q
Define concentration
A
It’s a measured amount of a substance dissolved in a given volume of solution
4
Q
Concentration in g/dm3
A
Concentration in mol/dm3 x FM
5
Q
Titrations
A
They allow you to find out exactly how much acid is needed to neutralise a quantity of alkali and vice versa
6
Q
Describe a titration reaction
A
- Using a pipette add some alkali to a conical flask along with two drops of indicator
- Fill a burette with acid
- Using the burette add the acid to the alkali a bit at a time and swirl the conical flakes regularly
- Indicator changes colour when all the acid has been neutralised
7
Q
Hydrogen ions are released when
A
Acid dissolves in water
