Acid/base quiz Flashcards
What is the formula for H+ and OH- concentrations?
(H+ concentration) • (OH- concentration)=1E-14
What is the pH and pOH formulas?
pH= -log(H+) pOH= -log(OH-)
What are the antilog concentration formulas?
10^-pH= (H+)
10^-OH=(OH-)
What is Ka and Kb?
Acid/base dissociation constant, says how much an acid or base breaks apart
What is Kw? how do you get it from Ka and Kb?
Kw is the equilibrium constant for water. Kw=Ka•Kb
What is pKa and Pkb? how can you use them to find pH and pOH?
the p means the log of the value was taken. pKa=pH and pKb=pOH at equilibrium
What are conjugate acids and bases?
Conjugate base: What remains after a proton is removed from an acid
Conjugate base: What remains after a proton is added to a base
How do you find %ionization?
concentration H+/original molarity
When given molarity, what do you do to get concentrations?/pH/pOH etc.?
