acid base equlibrium Flashcards
how to find the pH of an equation
write out your givens, make your big beaker of science, make an equation,
KC equation, find ka or kb, Ice chart (remember when u dump that they dilute immediately, so include that with c1v1) X= H or OH, find OH, pOH, to pH (pr the other way around if you find H first. - log H for [h].
how to solve for x you dumb ididot
cross multiply!!!
two very important things to have
the charges + or -, and assume X is negligible in relation to [excess]0
acids are…
proton donors (remember ch3cooh- is an acid. donates h)
bases are…
proton acceptors (remember nh3 is a base, accepts h)
what are the product of weak acids or bases?
strong conjugate bases or acids.
what are the strong acids?
HCl, HBr, HI (!), HNO3, H2SO4, HClO3, and HClO4.
what are strong bases?
most things with OH-, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides.
how to do a buffer question?
givens, big beaker, equation, BDA chart (mols, not []) ICE, ka/kb equation, solve for x, ph=ta da.
how to do it when you have a fraction on one side and one number on the other?
multiply from lonely one to bottom, divide up.
how to calculate ksp?
Kc equation, the given in M is used for everything but you X it for the stoich thing. then plug it into Kc equation and solve.
value of kw?
1.0 X10 ^-14
