Aims and objectives of CPS
Funding of CPS
CPS aims of objectives
- Must determine what cases should be prosecuted
- Determine the appropriate charges in more serious or complex cases and advise the police on charging suspects
- Prepare and present cases to court using a range of in house advocates
- Provide support to victims and prosecution witnesses
Government funded with majority of its budgets being approved by parliament, the cps budget is £500 million, when costs are awarded by courts, the cps recover some of the costs of its prosecutions from defendants, cps also recover criminal assets through confiscation.
Role of CPS in achieving Social control
CPS achieve social control by having powers on deciding who to prosecute and who should be put before courts, the CPS are guided by two code tests evidential and public interest test, the evidential test asks is there enough evidence against defendant, when deciding this the CPS must consider whether evidence can be used in court and is reliable and must be satisfied that the evidence is enough to provide a realistic and strong conviction.
Public interest test asks is it in the public interests for the CPS to being the case to court

Role of Hm prisons is to keep those sentenced to prison in custody, helping them lead law abiding and useful lives, both when they are and out of prison
Funding- Most prisons are government funded with finances being raised through taxation, in 2015 the budgets was £3.4 billion,
