retribution, rehabilitation, reparation, deterrence, public protection

what is retribution
A
retribution is the punishing of the offender for the crime they have committed (each punishment is different due to each crime differing)

What is rehabilitation
A
reformation of an offenders mindset

what is deterrence ?
A
Deterrence is the attempt of discouraging offenders to reoffend (recidivism - reoffending)

What is public protection ?
A
Ensuring that the public are safe from any danger - possibly offenders

reparation is the giving back to the offender / community for the crime that has been committed
