What is the green paper ?
the green paper is a rough draft for bill - it contains basic information for a new law
What is the white paper ?
The white paper is a concrete version of the green paper, it will be sent to parliament for a first reading
what is a government
the government is a group of people that are selected by the public to run the country, the prime minister is the leading member of the majority party
what is parliament ?
parliament is a made up of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. it is where laws are made by passing acts through parliament
what is the House of Commons
the House of Commons is made up of 650 selected representatives that the UK vote for
what is the House of Lords
the House of Lords is a group of 800 people that are elected by the monarch - a bill goes to the House of Lords after the second reading
what is the first reading
the first reading is when a bill is introduced to the House of Commons and it is typically the title of the bill that is discussed
What is the second reading?
the second reading is when the main principles of the bill is read out and debated within the house of commons
What is the committee stage ?
the committee stage is when the bill is looked into with more detail by a group of specialists that report back any amendments they have made to the House of Commons
What is the third reading?
the third reading is when mp’s have the final chance to debate on the bill. if the bill is passed it will go to the House of Lords
what happens after the third reading ?
after the third reading the bill is passed to the House of Lords, if those in the House of Lords decided to amend the bill it will go back to the house of commons, if not it will go straight to the monarch and gain the royal assent
what is the judicial precedent ?
Judicial precedent is when judge creates a law for future judges to follow
what is statutory interpretation ?
