Anxiety disorders
Characterized by distressing persistent anxiety or maladaptive behaviors that reduce anxiety
Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( GED )
Continually tense and in a state of autonomic nervous system arousal
Panic disorder
Intense dread where people experience panic attacks
Phobia
Persistent irrational fear
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Repetitive thoughts and or actions
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Haunting memories, nightmares, social withdrawal, jumpy anxiety, insomnia for 4 weeks or more after a traumatic event.
Post traumatic growth
Positive psychological changes as a result of extremely challenging circumstances and life crisis
Somatoform disorder
Disorder where symptoms take a somatic (bodily) form without apparent physical cause
Conversion disorder
Very specific genuine physical symptoms for which no physiological basis can be found.
Hopochondriasis
Interprets normal physical sensations as symptoms of a disease
Dissociative disorder
Conscious awareness becomes separated from previous memories thoughts and feelings
Mood disorders
Characterized by emotional extremes
Dissociative identity disorder (DID)
Rare, person exhibits two or more distinct and alternating personalities
(Multiple personality disorder)
Major depressive disorder
Two or more weeks of significantly depressed mood feelings of worthlessness and no interest in most activities
Mania
Mood disorder marked by a hyperactive wildly optimistic state.
Bipolar disorder
Person alternates between depressive & manic episodes
Schizophrenia
Disorganized and delusional thinking,disturbed perceptions, inappropriate emotions and actions.
Delusions
False beliefs, persecution or grandeur.
Accompany many psychological disorders.
Personality disorders
Inflexible behavior patterns, impair social functioning.
Antisocial personality disorder
Lack of conscience wrongdoing, aggressive or ruthless.
Psychological disorder
Deviant, distressful or dysfunctional behavior
