abiotic & biotic factors Flashcards
list 7 abiotic factors
-moisture level
-light intensity
-temperature
-carbon dioxide level (plants)
-wind intensity & direction
-oxygen level (aquatic animals)
-soil pH & mineral content
abiotic
non-living
give 2 examples of changes in abiotic factors, and what they lead to
-decrease in light intensity/temp/carbon dioxide levels could decrease rate of photosynthesis, affecting plant growth and decreasing population size
-decrease in mineral content of the soil could cause nutrient deficiencies, could affect plant growth and cause a decrease in the population size
list 4 biotic factors
-availability of food
-new predators arriving
-new pathogens
-competition (one species outcompeting another so the numbers are no longer
sufficient to breed)
give 2 examples of changes in biotic factors, and what they lead to
-new predator could cause a decrease in prey population
-new pathogen could cause a decrease in population
