Abdominal Vessels Lab Flashcards
Celiac trunk branches
common hepatic
L gastric
splenic
Celiac trunk sub-branches
common hepatic
hepatic a. proper and gastroduodenal (R gastric and R gastro-epiploic)
L gastic
splenic
short gastric, L gastro-epiploic
Superior mesenteric a.
branches
middle colic
right colic
ileocolic (appedicular branch)
Why does it make sense that the superior mesenteric artery gives off the R colic artery?
superior mesenteric artery supplies midgut
midgut (including proximal 2/3 of colon) located on right side
Inferior mesenteric a. branches
L colic a.
sigmoid arteries
superior rectal a.
Why does it make sense that the inferior mesenteric artery gives off the L colic artery?
inferior mesenteric a. supplies hind gut
this includes distal 1/3 of colon, sigmoid, and rectum, which are located on the left side
What are circular folds?
folds found in luminal surface of jejunum that are not found in luminal surface of ileum
Circular folds function
increase surface area in jejunum
more substance present to be absorbed, less in ileum so we don’t need that much surface are there
so ileum has no folds
Splenic vein branches
splenic
superior mesenteric
inferior mesenteric
Divisions of pylorus
antrum (area where it narrows)
canal
sphincter
Folds inside stomach
rugae
Sliding hiatal hernia
vs
paraesophageal (rolling) hernia
sliding: cardia protrudes through diaphragm
rolling: fundus protudes through diaphragm (often anteriorly)
Duodenal cap
section right after pylorus
especially suceptible to ulcers
highly acidic stomach contents
Peyer’s Patches
location
ileum
Teniae coli
longitudinal muscle fibers on colon
