Abdominal Trauma (Abdomen and Pelvis) Flashcards
CT finding
Hemoperitoneum:
What is the density of acute blood within the peritoneal cavity?
+30 to +45 H
CT finding
Density of a sentinel clot?
> 60 H
May be seen in the peritoneal cavity adjacent to an injured organ
CT finding
What is the evidence of active bleeding?
Extravasation of contrast - seen during arterial phase
+85 to + 370 H
Causes of free contrast within the peritoneal cavity?
May result from oral contrast leaking from injured bowel or intravenous contrast leaking from a ruptured bladder
Injury which appears as a crescent-shaped collections confined by the capsule of the injured organ
Subcapsular hematoma
Injury which appears as irregularly shaped low-density areas within a contrast-enhanced solid organ
Intraparenchymal hematomas
Injury appearing as jagged linear defects
Lacerations
Defined by lower-density blood within a contrast enhanced injured organ
This reflects damage to the organ’s blood supply
Absence of organ enhancement
