A
- Inspect

What are the different shapes of the abdomen when lying down?
A
- Flat (normal)
- Rounded (normal)
- Scaphoid (sunken)
- Protuberant (big belly)

What other things should you comment on during inspection of the abdominal area?
A
- symmetry
- location, shape, edges of umbilicus
- visible blood vessels, pulsations, and abdominal movements
- overall demeanor
- presence or absence of hernia
- general health of skin (colour, striae, scars, lesions, piercings, moles, discolourations, hair distribution)

Where do you auscultate?
A
Starting in LRQ, auscultates 2 areas in each quadrant, listens for 5 sounds

How do you palpate the liver?
A
Ask patient to take big breath in, palpate deeply, comment on consistency of liver, size, and location

A
- Liver span
- shifting dullness
- fluid wave test (ascites)
