Abdomen Flashcards
These tumors characterized by spindle cells and fibrous stroma:
Desmoid tumors; locally aggressive
Desmoid tumors stain positive for that markers/
B-catenin
Vimentin
Actin
(Dont stain for cytokerain or S-100)
Desmoid tumors can be associated with what familial syndromes?
FAP
For HIPEC to be effective for pseudo myxoma peritoni, what residual tumor burden must be left after debulking?
<2 mm
Chylous ascites is due to presence of thoracic or intestinal lymph fluid in the abd cavity; what causes it?
Western world; MCC is lymphoma (malignancy)
Developing world; infectious (TB, filiriasis)
> 75% of SBP is caused by?
Gram negative rods (>50% are e.coli)
Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma:
Aggressive, does not spread thru blood or lymph nodes
Remains contained in abdominal cavity
T stage of this tumor is based on location + size
What is SAAG (serum ascites-albumin gradient)?
Subtract the albumin concentration of ascites from the albumin concentration of serum (ex: 1.8 - 0.5 = 1.3.
SAAG > 1.1 helps confirm portal HTN
What do we do with mesenteric cysts found incidentally in children?
Resect
Can cause vascular compromise and intestinal infarction
Cause of mesenteric cysts?
Thought to arise from sequestration of lymphatic vessels during development
Causes of rectus sheath hematomas?
Rupture of inferior/superior epigastric arteries
Carnett sign- point of maximal tenderness does not change with change in position
