1895 - Booker T Washington said blacks would learn vocational skills and prove they could be hard working and economically dependant
When was the great migration?
1910 - 1930 - moved from the south to then north - made it a nationwide problem - in conjunction with WW1 changing attitude to AAs
Effect of WW1?
Troops saw desegregated French and wanted that. Sparked activism and opened some people’s eyes to what is right
Effect of WW2?
Same as WW1 - desegregated European countries prompted activism later - also irony of fighting a country that was doing what America was - when they got home in the south they were beaten up etc. poor publicity - TURNING POINT bcs initiated activism
