- they are laws and rules that are set for the designer so their products have to meet a certain standard before being sold
- this ensures the products are safe for the consumer because they have to meet safety standards
- consumers can get their money back if the product is faulty and sent meet the standards

- its a risk asssemnt that companies and manufactures have to do to protect emplyouers form hazardous substances
- substances must have a warning label sh0wing that they are inrritants, flammable, corrosive or toxic

- manufactures are required to make a list of all petnrial srisks in the manufacturing environments
- once risk asssemnts are in places it causes safety measure to come in, for example safety goggles for hazards liquids
