Doctor
-First (or primary) point of contact

What are the principle responsibilities of a doctor ?
> Diagnose an individuals illness
Discuss and agree a treatment plan
Prescribe appropriate medication or treatment
Monitor the impact of the agreed treatment
Consultant
-Senior doctors who are specialized in a particular area and manage complex cases.
>Cardiologists - Heart disease
>Psychiatrists - Mental health problems
>Oncologists - Cancer treatment
>Pediatricians - Treating children
>Geriatricians - Treating older people
Adult Nurse
-People with a wide range of conditions
-Work in hospitals, clinics, or GP or specialist organizations
-Promote good health by running clinics & health education programmes e.g. smoking
Mental Health Nurse
-People with mental health problems
-Work in psychiatric units in hospitals. community healthcare center, day care setting, residential homes, prisons
Paediatric Nurse
-Children with a wide range of conditions & parents/carers
-Work in hospitals & service users own home
Learning Disability Nurse
-People with learning disabilities & parents/carers
-Work in schools, workplace, specialist residential settings
-Aim to maintain the service users physical & mental health by providing specialist and support
District Nurse
-People of healthcare of all ages
-Work in service users own home, residential homes or older people with disabilities & discharged from hospitals
-Assess the patients needs and support the needs of their informal carers
Midwives
- Support women through pregnancy providing antenatal (care before birth) and postnatal care (after birth)
- Helping families prepare for parenthood and deliver babies
- Work in hospitals within maternity department, in patients home ,community, GP, children centres
Healthcare assistants
-Work in GP, hospitals, nursing home, community healthcare setting
-Main duties are taking and recording temperature and pulse, weighing patient, toilet, making beds, washing, dressing, serving meals, assisting with feedback.
Social workers
-Provide help and support through difficult times
-Ensure most vulnerable people are safeguarded from harm and to help people live independent lives
Adult social worker
-Work with older people, adults with disabilities, people with mental health problems, learning difficulties
Children social worker
-Work with children with disabilities or those at risk of harm, leaving care, young people at risk of being in trouble with the law
-Work in residential children’s setting, child’s home
-Main duties include ensuring child is safe and protected from abuse, if child is at risk they take measure to ensure child is removed to a safe place.
Occupational therapist
-Work with people of all ages who have difficulty in carrying out practical routines of daily life
-Work in people’s home, GP, residential homes, nursing homes, prisons, social services
-Main duties are to observe daily routines, provide advice and support to overcome barriers
Youth worker
-Work with people between ages 11 - 25
-Work in youth centres, schools, college, or with young people on the streets
-Main duties are to support young people reaching full potential and becoming a responsible member in society.
-Deliver programs relating to young people’s concerns
