A1 Blockers Flashcards
Block A1 receptors in arterioles and venules and produce less reflex tachycardia than non selective A antagonists such as phentolamine.
Prazosin, terazosin, and doxazosin
Bp is reduced more in the upright position than in supine. Retention of salt and water occurs when used alone and is more effective with the use of B blockers and diuretics.
A1 blockers
Used primarily in men with concurrent hypertension and BPH
A1 blockers
Extensively metabolized but undergoes little first pass metabolism
Terazosin
Some patients develop positive test for antinuclear factor but is not associated with rheumatic symptoms
Prazosin
Not adversely and may even beneficially affect plasma lipid profile
A1 blockers
Nonselective agents that are useful in diagnosis and treatment of pheochromocytoma and in other clinical situations associated with exaggerated release of catecholamines
Phentolamine and phenoxybenzamine
