A-level Business Studies Lesson 07 (3.2.1) Flashcards
Leadership
Leadership is the ability to guide, influence, and inspire individuals or groups towards achieving common goals. It involves setting a vision, making strategic decisions, and motivating others to work collaboratively and effectively.
Management
Management is the process of planning, organising, leading, and controlling resources—such as people, finances, materials, and time—within an organisation or project to achieve specific objectives efficiently and effectively.
Authoritarian management and leadership
The leader or manager exerts a high level of control over decisions and operations, often without seeking input or feedback from others.
Paternalistic management and leadership
The leader or manager adopts a role similar to that of a parent, making decisions in what they perceive to be the best interest of their employees or team members. This approach combines a strong, authoritative stance with a concern for the well-being and development of subordinates.
Democratic management and leadership
The leader or manager actively involves team members in the decision-making process. This approach values the input, ideas, and opinions of employees, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and participation in the organisation’s direction and operations.
Laissez-faire management and leadership
The leader or manager takes a hands-off approach, giving employees significant autonomy and freedom to make decisions and manage their work. In this style, the leader provides minimal direct supervision and allows team members to self-manage, offering support and resources only when necessary.
