Who is Mary Chesnut?

A

The Author of A Diary from Dixie. She lived between 1823 and 1886. She was a daughter of a wealthy plantation owner and she was against slavery but she supported the South. She had a formal education and was married to a lawyer, Chestnut. Her husband was prominent in the Confederacy and she was financially ruined after the war.
