Union Sit

A

Ok, Let’s jump right in, some really important things to go over. Has anyone come by in the past before covid to set up your benefits or is this the first time? Did you get a chance to read the letter that came with the card you filled out? Do you get very involved with your union? Have you ever gone to the meeting when they’ve talked about your permanent options? Have you ever read the newsletter?

Intro 2

A

Okay, I should back up and explain.

My name is _____ and I’m with AIL Canada (Show ID BADGE). And we take care of the permanent benefits for anyone that’s part of a major union or association all over BC and all over North America. So you know how the police, firefighters, and teachers get the best benefits, that’s basically what we do. And our head office for BC is here in Burnaby right by Metrotown.[Share Google Map]. So this is where we do the permanent benefits for most major unions and associations in BC.

Now do you know what I mean by permanent benefits? [Wait for response] Well most people have benefits at work. But when you leave your job, or you retire, or you get laid off like so many people have with everything going on, what do you think happens to those benefits? Exactly, they disappear just like that… and that’s the biggest concern that everyone has because it means that at some point all your benefits go away and there’s nothing there to protect you when you need it the most.

A2 - Two Reasons

A

So there’s two parts to how they fixed that problem and that’s what I’ll go over with you:
First, you get a no-cost package that’s already been taken care of, I’ll show you that first because it has a lot of really important things in there that I’ll be mailing out to you. [Show free stuff]
And the second and most important part is… you actually get a ONE-TIME access to try and qualify for the same permanent benefits that we do for most major union and association members. Now these benefits are really good and they never expire. Because of that, they do have a cost, but the good news is, you get to choose and decide what makes the most sense for you and your family. If you like it, great, I can try to help you out and see if you qualify. And if not, it’s all good, they just ask for a quick report card at the end, so they know that I’ve done my job properly, and you still get the no-cost package regardless. Does that make sense?

Q

A3 - AD&D

A

Great, let’s start with the no cost package then.

The first benefit that you get is a $2,000 accidental death and dismemberment certificate. So if you pass away in an accident it goes to your beneficiary. It doesn’t cost you anything, and has already been paid for. I know $2,000 isn’t going to cover everything if you pass away; but the advantage this has is it DOES pay out right away that same week. Now (Name), if something happens to you, for example, you’re driving on the road and get into a bad car accident, and you pass away, who do you want the money to go to? (keep in mind they do have to be over 18 to receive this). Now, if that person isn’t available, or they’ve passed away before you, who would it go to instead?
[take note of their name and relation]
Okay, I’m going to e-mail and text it to you right now, let me know when you’ve gotten it.
[Receive verbal confirmation]

A3 - Vision Discount Card

A

Next is the vision discount card. This gets you 30% off glasses at any Loblaws or Superstore all over BC (Point at the logos). Now the best part is that this works on top of your work benefits or any other benefits you may have. All you have to do is give this to the cashier, and they’ll take the 30% off right away, and then you can submit your receipts into your benefits like normal. NOW, the vision discount is a ONE-TIME use only, BUT, if you do end up qualifying for the permanent benefits in the blue folder (hold-up blue folder & tap it), they send you one of these every year in the mail. So it becomes an ongoing vision discount.

A3 - Child Safety Kit

A

Next is the Child safety kits, have you heard of the Amber alerts before? (Yes/No) So the Amber alerts are the country wide system that police and emergency responders use to make sure that missing kids are brought home safely to their parents. As you can see (point to IUPA logo), the kit is endorsed by the International Union of Police Associations. Because we work with unions, the IPUA have asked us to send these out to every family that we meet with to make sure all the kids in the community are safe. As well, they realize that a lot of families never get access to this, but this is super important for anyone with children under 18. I’ll teach you how to fill it out, all you need to do is fill it out, and keep it somewhere safe at home, you DON’T have to send anything back to me (wave hands to show “NO”)
[Screen share]

So the kits help keep your kids safe in 2 ways.
1. In case something happens to your kids, call 911 right away, hand this over to the police, and they can use the info in the orange panel to issue out the Amber Alerts in as little as 15 minutes. Without these, it can take anywhere from 4-12 hours to issue out those Amber Alerts. 15 min vs 12 hours! That’s literally day and night!
2. If there’s a medical emergency, the EMTs or Nurses need to have your child’s medical information to help them out.
Any questions about the childsafe kits? (Wait for response). They used to do these in schools, but now with budget cuts and everything going on, they don’t do it anymore. Would you be able to help us get these out to friends and family with kids in your community? We want to make sure every family gets these because they’re that important. I’ll show you how to do that in a few minutes.

A3 - Family Information Guide

A

The next thing they have for you is the family information guide (hold up hard copy), this is for estate planning and emergency contacts. Once again, I’ll show you how to fill it out, and send it to you, then all you do is fill it out and keep it somewhere safe at home. You don’t send anything back to me. (If Spouse: I’ll send you 2 copies so you and your spouse can each fill in your own)
[Share screen & prepare annotate function]
The first section is your basic information, so (Name) your information goes here, and if there’s a spouse their information goes here, and just vice versa on their copy.
The first IMPORTANT section is “persons to be notified”. Now (Name), if something happens to you and you need to call someone for help, who’s the first person that comes to mind outside of your immediate household? Okay, what’s their name? (get name).
Okay, if they’re not available, or they miss your call or their phone runs out of battery, who’s the next person you would call? Okay, what’s their name? (get name).
Now if it’s a smaller emergency, like you had a few drinks with your friends, and you need a ride home, but don’t want to worry your family, who’s the first friend that you’d call? (get name).
[Repeat for spouse if necessary]
Great! Now make sure you also put their phone numbers down as well, because nowadays, when everyone has one of these (hold up your phone), nobody is memorizing phone numbers anymore. (laugh and smile).
Next is the last will and testament section, have you every filled out a will before? (if not: okay, no worries I’ll teach you how to do that in a minute.)
So what you want to do here is fill out your executor, that’s the person that takes care of your will for you, as well as the location of where your will is kept. Because if nobody can find your will, it’s the same as not having one in the first place.
Next is your estate information (Unshare Screen). BONUS
Now (name) have you ever heard of the term, settling your estate before? (wait for response)
Okay, so basically, when a person passes away, 2 things happen: (use hand motions)
First, they are going to have some assets, it could a house, car, electronics, savings acct, whatever that may be.
On the other hand, they’re also going to have some debts, mortgage/rent, car payments, credit card debts, student loans, whatever that may be as well.
Now what MOST people do, is that they have some form of life insurance to pay off the debts, so that the debt’s don’t eat into your assets, AND they don’t get left behind to the family or especially the kids. ( if kids: Because nobody wants to leave debt behind to their kids.)
So (name & spouse), do you guys have any form of life insurances for yourselves outside of work?
(if they mention only work insurance: Okay, so that is a big concern because if anything happens to you outside of work, you’re not covered then!)
(if they mention they have some sort of separate insurance: Okay, that’s good! When does that one expire? 10 years or 20 years? (wait for response). Okay, so that means if you pass away at age (their age +11/21) there’s nothing left for the family. )
Now that’s a big problem, because obviously you don’t want to leave any debt behind when you pass away right? (wait for response). Now the good news is, AIL gave it a lot of thought, any realized that this was a big problem, so they decided to take care of it through the permanent benefits. And I’ll explain how those work in a few minutes.

The last part here is the “funeral service requests”
Now (Name) have you ever taken care of a funeral before? (wait for response). Okay, so what you want to do here is write down whether you want a cremation or earth burial for yourself here, as well as any special instructions you may have. This way it makes it a lot easier for the family that’s left behind to deal with everything.
Just out of curiosity, do you know how much a cremation or an earth burial typically costs in the Lower Mainland? (if they give you a higher number, agree with their number). (Otherwise: Typically cremations range from $4,000 to $8,000 per person. Earth burials on the other hand usually start at $10,000 and can get as high as $15,000 or even $25,000. And that’s only if you have the plot). So make sure that you have something set aside to take of those expenses! Or, the permanent benefits help take care of that too, and I can explain that in a little bit.
So that’s your family information guide. Any questions about that?

A3 - Willkit

A

Last thing they have for you is the No Cost legal will kit. I’ll give you the website and promo code, and show you how to fill it out. Let me know when you can see my screen (share screen)
So the website is: www.canadawills.com/willkit, and the promo code is: gh76u. Once you enter that in, accept the terms & conditions, and you can start filling out your will step by step. It’s already been laid out for you, so all you have to do is fill-in-the-blanks. If there are any questions, hover over the little “I” bubbles, or click on them, and there will be specific instructions on how to fill everything out. This way you can fill out your entire will. Once this is done, there’s still 2 quick steps. First, they will email everything back to you in a PDF, so you need to print it out so that it becomes a hard copy paper will. Second, you need to get 2 witnesses to sign off on the will for you. They cannot be A. Immediate family, B. A Beneficiary. Once you get the 2 signatures, your will is good to go. Any questions?

A4 - Recap

A

Great, so that’s your No-Cost Benefits Package. Just to re-cap you’ll be getting the $2,000 AD&D Certificate, Vision discount card for 30% off glasses, X # Childsafe kits, X Family information guide, and the Website and promo code to do your will.
Now (Name), hopefully you can see how IMPORTANT and VALUABLE all of this stuff is! (tap the package*)
(Get their confirmation that it is valuable. If they do not confirm it, you will get no referrals)
So normally, this is only reserved for union members, but because of everything going on, they realized that everyone needs this package to help keep the family safe. So what they’ve done, is they’ve given you 10 credits, so you can EXTEND this exact same package out to the people you care about the most! It’s at NO COST to you, and at NO COST to them, it’s already been taken care of. What they do need though, to get these packages mailed out to everyone properly, is they need a name, the city that they live in, and a phone number to verify that these are real people. That way, we can get these packages out to everyone in your family and close friends. Does that make sense?

Q

A4 - Referral

A

[Pull up referral tool]
Let’s start with your (relation, name) [input into ref tool], what’s their spouse’s name? City? How many kids do they have under 18 living with them?
(Go with the flow, if you started off with parents, get the family first before you move on to friends, let the train of thought flow smoothly).
Parents, siblings, (kids), aunts, uncles, cousins, niece/nephew. [You should get minimum 3 from FIG] after you assumptively fill in the first 3, just ask “okay, who’s next?”
(at the first “I don’t know” or, “that’s all I can think of”, remind them of the child safe kits)
Okay, so we got the family, now, these childsafe kits are super important for families with kids under 18, who do you know that has 3 or more kids? 2 kids? (you should be able to get at least another 3-4 names minimum)
(at this point, you should be at anywhere from 6-10 referrals).
Now, since this is super VALUABLE and IMPORTANT, we don’t want to miss out any family or close friends. Imagine if we missed out 1 person that really needed it, they would feel terrible, right? So go ahead and pull out your phone and scroll through you contacts to make sure we didn’t miss a single person that needs this. (typically adds 2-5 more referrals.)

(Round to the nearest 5 or 0.) (Ex. If they gave you 13): Okay, we got 2 spots left, let’s use it up so they credits don’t go to waste. Who’s next? **PRO MOVE: After they give you 10th or 15th, or 20th, ignore it and keep saying “who’s next” (may get you 1 to 2 more usually).
[At this point, if they’re following along, you will be at anywhere from 10-20 referrals.]
(Once they’re completely tapped out)
Okay great! We’ve helped out a lot of the family and friends, and we’re gonna make sure they are all going to get the package. Now the last thing we need to do is give them a heads up that they’ll be getting something in the mail, so I’m going to send you a quick text, let me know when you get it, and we’ll copy it, and paste it to everyone on the list so they have the heads up.

Q

B1 - Transition

A

Okay, I’ll make sure everyone gets their own package. Now, I want to go over the most important part, which is the permanent benefits.
Now (name), do you know the role of the unions in general? (Yes/no)
One major advantage that union members have is that their benefits are negotiated with their entire group. BUT when they leave their job or retire, they still lose all or most of their work benefits just like everyone else. The other problem is if you try to get something private on your own afterwards, then the rates are usually way too high. So what they did was they negotiated these benefits to fill in the most important gaps that you’re missing, and they will go with you for life.
AIL does these benefits for most of the major unions and associations in North America. Including the Teamsters, the truck drivers, paramedics and teachers (CUPE), and electric workers (IBEW). We work with over 45,000 groups in total and we’ve been around for over 70 years. And that’s good for you is because there is POWER in numbers. So when the entire labour advisory board negotiates it for you, you get a better program with more value for what YOU actually need. I think a lot of the time most people know they need something permanent at home, but they don’t know where to go, so it helps to have that connection.. Does that make sense?

17
Q

B2 - Gaps

A

So there are 4 major concerns they realized over the years:
First, you need something to cover accidents and injuries. ESPECIALLY off the job! Because on the job, when something happens at work… we’re USUALLY covered. But if you get injured outside of work, you’re typically on your own.
Second, is you need something to cover your funeral and final expenses. Because regardless of who you are, or what age you’re at, we’re all going to have one eventually, and it’s not going to be cheap.
Third, is cancer expenses. This is a big one because the Canadian Cancer Society says that in 1 in 2 Canadians will eventually get diagnosed with cancer sometime in their life. Do you know anyone that has gone through cancer? (respond appropriately). Typically, if you get cancer, work doesn’t cover that for you, and you’re on your own.
Fourth is paycheck protection. Because if you’re not around your paycheck disappears too, yet your expenses stay the same. So they set up a way to protect your paycheck and help the family.

18
Q

B3 - Packages

A

So (Name) they have 4 programs for members — A Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum is for the members who usually have no benefits at all and large family with 7 or 8 kids, because it covers everyone in the family. So that’s $450/month, Gold is the most common one at $250, Silver is also really popular and it’s $175, and Bronze is JUST $125 and still covers all the basics. These prices are for the whole family not per person. Most families usually go for the silver or gold, I’ll ask you in a few moments which one you want to see, and the computer will customize a program for you. Now, the features that come with the benefits are the most important part. So the first one is..

GAP FILLER: This program is designed to fill in the gaps that work doesn’t cover for you. On the off chance that you have amazing work benefits, these ones do not overlap and will pay out above your existing benefits.
EXCLUSIVE: Normally this is only reserved for union members, but since (referrer) has an in with the unions, they’ve also given you a 1-time access to try and qualify for the benefits today.
PORTABLE & PRIVATE - Do you know what that means? Unlike your work benefits which you lose when you leave, these ones you get to keep and you can take them with you wherever you go. Even if you retire or live somewhere else in the future.
NEVER EXPIRES (Skip if showing term) - So you know how most benefits expire at 60 or 65? Once you qualify for these ones, they go with you for life and do not expire.
FIXED RATE (Skip if showing term) - With most benefits, do you know what happens to your rates as you get older? Exactly, they usually go up. Since these are permanent benefits, the rate gets locked in today at your current age and it never changes.
UPGRADABLE/DOWNGRADABLE - My personal favorite feature is that the program is upgradeable/downgradeable. let’s say you qualify for the Silver plan and at some point life changes and you need to move up to the Gold, or down to a bronze, you can do that at any time by just giving me a call. It’s always flexible and in your independent control.
QUALIFY - The only requirement on your end is you have to qualify, and that just depends on health. How are you doing health wise?

Great, so give me a quick moment, I’m going to ask you a few basic questions, and the computer is going to customize a program based on your situation.

19
Q

C1 - Problem

A

Okay, so the first concern they have is with your accident and injuries. When was the last time that anyone in the family got injured in any sort of accident or injury? (Wait for response)
[if they can’t think of anything, suggest examples… “anything minor, or major, cuts, bruises, etc” (make it relevant to them)]
And did you go to a doctor to get that checked out? (answer will almost always be “no”). Why not? (because it’s a hassle, nothing major, don’t like doctors, etc.)
Right. Well, here in Canada we’re super fortunate, if we get injured and go to the doctor, our medical expenses are taken care of through MSP. But there’s always going to be out of pocket expenses such as gas, time taken to travel back and forth, parking and food. All those are not covered by your MSP, so who has to pay for those bills? (Wait for response) Exactly! You do! And those expenses can add up to be a lot of money right?
For example, [explain a relevant example base on their life: if you sprained your ankle while going on a hike with your family, work doesn’t cover that for you, and you need to get to the hospital to get checked out, all those extra bills such as food, gas and time come out of your own pocket! And it can add up to be a lot of money and becomes a big problem! And if it’s a serious accident or injury that requires hospitalization, you’re obviously not working, and neither is your spouse because they’ll be right there beside you, so now the extra bills rack up and there’s no income.]

20
Q

C1 - Solution

A

So the way they fixed that problem for you, (spouse and the kids) is whenever you (guys) get hurt or injured (give a relevant example) and have to go see your family doctor or go to the walk-in clinic or hospital, and you grab the doctor’s note, they’re going to send you $150 just for taking the time out of your day to get the injury looked at. It could be any kind of injury or accident… whether it’s cuts, stitches, burns, or a broken arm. So now there’s money to help out when you get checked out for any accident or injury and you can use it whenever you want. There’s no limits on this benefit, so it covers the whole family 24/7, you can travel all over the world with it, (and it even covers the kids when they’re at school.)
Now the exception is if you’re in the hospital overnight, more than 24 hours, for any accident or injury; that means it’s a more serious injury. So they double the benefit and send you $300 Dollars every day, starting the first day, for up to one full year per hospitalized incident. (Pause) That ends up being $2100 per week tax-free. With all the bills and everything you have at home, would that $2100 a week be enough to take care of everything? Of course, it’s a lot!
Now, hopefully you never have to go through this… but if you had a really bad accident like a car accident, and ended up in the intensive care unit; that would be the worst part of the hospital to be in, right? When that happens, they double the benefit again, so you’ll get $600 per day, which is $4200 per week. The reason it’s so much more is because in the ICU, it’s a Life or Death situation, so the whole family would want to be there, and that means a lot more expenses for everybody involved. Does that make sense?

21
Q

C2 - FOC Problem

A

The second major concern is your funeral and final expenses. Now (Name), have you ever had to deal with a funeral before? (Wait for response)
[If yes] If you don’t mind me asking, who was it for? Sorry to hear, it must have been tough. Were you as prepared as you wanted to be? [otherwise skip this]
The reason that I ask is because it’s a big problem with most families. The problem is not that we’re going to die, because we all will eventually. But when it happens, someone has to face the funeral director right away and they’re going to want all or most of the money up front before they do anything. Did you realize that?
Now let me ask you (name), if you passed away next week, say in a bad car accident, how is your spouse or kids going to deal with a $10,000 bill? (leave them in the silence for a few seconds, they typically won’t have a solution.)
If you’re lucky, maybe you can borrow some money from friends or family, or charge the expenses to a credit card at 24% interest. But ultimately, the family is going to be stuck with the bill, and if they can’t pay it off right away, the family is going to be left with debt, right? (wait for agreement) and the last thing you want to do is to leave debt behind to your family right?

22
Q

C2 - FOC Solution

A

So the way they fixed that problem is they made a certificate that handles everything right away for you. In your folder… you get one of these, have you seen it before? This is your Freedom of Choice certificate. (Pull out FOC)
So how this works is, when you pass away, due to ANY cause of death, whoever is taking care of your funeral and final expenses goes down to any funeral home of your choice, that’s why it’s called freedom of choice, they hand it to the funeral director, the director calls the 1-800 number, and everything is taken care of on the spot right away. This way, you don’t have to worry about where the money is going to come from to take care of your funeral and final expenses. Does that make sense?
(Share HP Pro again)
So, for your (whichever they chose) program, they’ve set aside $30,000 for ANY cause of death for you. That includes natural causes and even old age. And the best part of this is that whatever is not used up from the $30,000 gets mailed back in a cheque to the family. So now, when you pass away, and the funeral costs $10,000. Instead of leaving that debt behind to your family and kids, you’ve actually left them $20,000 instead plus taken care of those expenses for them. Isn’t that a way better way to handle things? (wait for agreement)
Now notice that this benefit covers you (and spouse) for ANY cause of death. So let me ask you (name), what are the odds that we are all going to pass away one day (answer has to be 100%)? Right, so what are the odds that you (and spouse) will be getting this amount one way or another? (100% or it’s guaranteed).

23
Q

C3 - Accidental Death

A

Now the other problem is if you pass away in an accident, it’s unexpected, and obviously the costs will be a lot higher. So in this case, what they do is they give you an extra ($XXXXXX) on top of the $30,000. If it’s an auto related accident, they give you an extra ($XXXXXX), and if it’s a common carrier accident, which is a bus, plane, train, or boat, anything you buy a ticket for and keeps a regular schedule. If you pass away in one of those accidents, they will send the family ($XXXXXX) on top of the $30,000. Now (name) isn’t it way better to have this in place, instead of leaving debt behind to the family? (wait for agreement).

24
Q

C4 - Paycheque Protection

A

Problem:
The third problem is with your paycheque. Because if you’re not around, your paycheque disappears too. So for example if you had a heart attack or passed away in a car accident during your working years; your paycheck disappears right away as well. But what happens to your bills? Does the rent or mortgage stop? Who’s going to pay for electricity, water, food, and wifi? All those bills will keep going right?
(And now that you’re gone, there’s no way that your spouse can work double the amount of hours to keep the family income the same, PLUS take care of the kids. It’s literally impossible.)
[OR]
(If you pass away suddenly, your parents are not going back to work the next week right? They’ll definitely be taking some time off and need to process and grieve. But their bills will catch up to them, and whether it’s a week or a month, eventually they’ll need to go back to work to keep paying those bills. But they won’t have enough time to process and figure things out.)
Solution:
So what they’ve done is…. When you pass away in your working years for any cause of death, they will send (beneficiary) $3000/ month every single month, for ONE FULL YEAR, so that the family at least has time to figure things out and adjust. Does that make sense? So now that you have this paycheque protection coming in, you can take the bigger lump sums you’ll be getting and save it towards retirement, or save it for the kids future education.

C5 - Terminal Illness

A

In addition, these benefits also come with a terminal illness rider. (Name), do you know what a terminal illness is? (wait for response). So a terminal illness is when the doctor says you have less than 12 month to live, and you get diagnosed with conditions such as brain disease, liver failure, heart disease or stage 4 cancer. Typically in these cases, most families use up all their life savings for expensive private treatment. If you’re lucky enough to survive, most of the families savings are wiped out.
So what they’ve done to help you out is they’ve set up a terminal illness rider. That means if you get diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than 12 months to live, they will give you HALF of the FOC upfront, and HALF of the paycheque protection upfront. In your case, you will get ($50,000) and you can use that for whatever you want, whether it’s for private treatment, or a last wish and time with family. And the remaining ($50,000) is there so that when you DO pass away, it will still take care of the funeral and final expenses. Does that make sense?

C6 - Cancer Problem

A

Now the last problem is the #1 cause of illness and death in Canada. Can you guess what it is? That’s right, it’s Cancer. It’s actually responsible for about 30% of all deaths in Canada, which is pretty crazy when you think about it. So cancer has 4 stages. If you catch it at stages 1 or 2, the chance of a cure is a lot higher than if you catch in the later stages. The good news is if you catch it early there’s a chance for a cure, but the bad news is you get put on the waiting list because there are thousands of other patients waiting in worse conditions, so they get priority. So while you’re waiting, what happens with your cancer? (wait for response) Exactly, it usually gets worse and you could lose that chance of a cure… which is exactly what’s happening all over BC right now.
The other thing is when you have cancer, you’re not working. So your income drops and all your expenses go up because of all the medication and travel. (Spouse) probably won’t be working either, you’ll both be together.

Q

C6 - Cancer Solution

A

So to help with that… the cancer benefit covers you in two ways. (share screen)
First is when you get diagnosed, you get ($5,000) right away. You can use that for whatever you need, like personal expenses or any private treatments. You don’t have to wait in line, start your treatment right away.
When you’re staying in the hospital as an in-patient, you’ll get ($200) a day for 500 full days. That’s a total of ($100,000). If you get better and you can do your cancer treatment at home, they call that being an out-patient. It means you’ll still have to go in for treatments and follow ups when you need to, but you’re at home. As an out-patient they give you ($100/day) for another 500 days which gives you a total of ($50,000).
So you have 1000 days (for each of you) which is ($150,000) in total that you can use towards cancer treatment. Now for example, if you get cancer and use 200 days in the hospital, and the cancer goes away… If the cancer ever comes back, you have 800 days left that you can use, as they never expire. Does that make sense?

Q

C7 - Membership

A

What’s also nice, is this builds up an emergency fund. So after a few years, if things ever get tight or you miss a payment, the fund covers it for you, so you don’t lose it. The paid-up benefit you see here means when you retire, a reduced paid-up portion of your funeral benefit is locked in for the rest of your life and you don’t pay for that part of your program anymore. Does that make sense?
The strike waiver you see here covers you for up to 12 months in case the union goes on strike, so they waive your monthly payments for you for up to 1 full year and you never have to pay it back. You also get a layoff waiver. So if you’ve been working for over a year and more than 10 people at your workplace get laid off, they take care of your benefits for up to 3 months until you’re back to work and you never have to pay it back.
The best part about these benefits is that they’re guaranteed. Which means the company can’t change or take them away from you once you get approved. And the benefits are 100% tax-free as well.

C8 - Quick Recap

A

So just to recap,
A71: The next time you (use relevant example) and have to go to the doctors and you grab the note, how much money are you going to get?
FOC: Now (spouse), if (name) passes away in a car accident, how much will be there for the family?
Paycheque: If something happens to either one of you and you pass away in your working years, there will be a paycheque of $3000/month coming in every single month… for how long?
Perfect. Looks like you guys understood everything.

Now (Name & Spouse), based on my understanding of your family’s situation, my advice is that you definitely need to have this in place because: (pick 3 solid ones)
You currently do not have any permanent benefits
You know how funeral and final expenses can be and you don’t want to leave left behind to the family and the kids
Your kids are still growing and there’s a higher chance of injury, which adds financial burden to the family.
There’s a family history of cancer, and as you know, those expenses do add up quickly.
You’ve been injured before, so you know exactly how important it is to have something to take care of the family.
The paycheque protection is going to be super important to help take care of the kids if you pass away.
So, my advice is to start with the silver (or bronze) and get your foot in the door and make sure you can qualify. Now, I don’t recommend the platinum program for you guys, but I think the silver makes the most sense for you. Wouldn’t it make more sense to start off with the silver (bronze) for now, and then upgrade later?
Great! Now, before I can promise you anything, let me ask you the medical questions to see if you can even qualify. And if everything looks good, we can set it up so that you guys can be temporarily covered as of tomorrow morning. Which means if you get injured from now until they finalize the approval (6-8 weeks), they will back pay you any amounts they owe you, up until tomorrow morning. Does that sound good?

Awesome. So I’ll set this up for you guys, and while I’m doing that, I need you to grab a few things for me so we can set this up properly.
First, they will need any prescription medications you’re currently taking.
Second, they’ll need your driver’s license to verify you address and information.
Third, because all these benefits are tax-free, they will need your SIN number to make sure you’re a tax paying citizen of Canada.
Fourth, because they will direct DEPOSIT, and WITHDRAW these amounts from your account automatically, they will need either a void cheque or direct deposit form. If you do online banking, I can teach you how to access that.
So go ahead and grab those things while I get this set up for you.

(Set up E-app and fill it out, ask all the questions, and send to client for signatures)

What comes next:

Awesome so, your policies should arrive within the next 6-8 wks., once received you’ve been permanently qualified and accepted.
In the meantime, a few things will happen.
Someone from head office (Waco, Texas) will give you a quick call to go over the same yes/no medical questions that I went over with you. If you have any problems with it, let me know and I can help you out.
They may send a doctor or a nurse to your place to check on your health. If they do, it’s at no cost to you and at your convenience. It’s basically a free in-home check up.

Now, there’s 3 possibilities for these benefits.
If everything looks great, they will approve you standard, which means you will get all the benefits we talked about today and the price stays the same.
If they do find something to be of risk, they may increase the monthly amount for a few dollars per month. But you still get to keep all the benefits. If the amount increased is too much, you will have an option to bring it back to the ($150/ month), and they will just lower the benefits a tiny bit.
If they do find something to be of major risk, they may decline you. If this happens and there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, they will refund you the money, so you don’t lose out on anything.

Lastly, make sure you save my phone number. I will give you a quick call in a few days once I’ve submitted everything and update you, and I will call you again once you receive the blue folder in the mail. As well, I will give you a call to let you know when your benefits are approved. If there are any questions, feel free to text/call me at anytime.

Let me know if you receive the email for signatures, and if you need any help!
(wait for signatures to be done, check your e-app and make sure signatures are completed)

(make sure HP Pro report card is done!)

Awesome, so I’ll take care of the file for you and your family and I’ll give you a quick call in a couple of days. Congratulations once again for taking this important step to protect your family, make sure you have my number saved, and I’ll talk to you in a few days!

Have a great evening! Take care!
