9.Cytology Flashcards
What does the cytology chapter deal with?
- The basic approach to evaluating a smear
- Gulde to identifying signs of neoplasia and classlflcatlon of the neoplasia
- Guide to determining between different types of Inflammation
- Basic interpretation of lymph node cytology
General approach to evaluation of the cytology smear(draw the figure)?
Name the 4 types of cellular changes?
- Anisocytosis
- Macrocytosis
- Pleomorphism
- Hyperchromasia
Define Anisocytosis?
Variation in the sizes of cells
Define Macrocytosis?
Increases in the size of cells
Define Pleomorphism?
Variation in size and shape of a particular cell type
Define Hyper chromasia?
Increased amount of pigmentation/ staining within the cell
What causes Increased N/C ratio?
Increases in the size of the nuclei compared to the cytoplasm
Define Macrokaryosis?
Increase in the size of the nuclei
Multinucleation?
Multiple nuclei are present
Anisokaryosis?
Variation in the sizes of nuclei
Nuclear Moulding?
The Nucleus of one cell is moulded and distorted by the nucleus of another cell.
Macronucleoli?
Increases in the size of the nucleoli(> than size of RBC)
Anisonucleoliosis, coarse chromatin pattern, increased mitotic figures and abnormal mitotic figures ?
Classification of Neoplasia ( Epithelial tumours, mesenchymal tumours, round cell tumours)?
