Stress
- Response to stimuli (stressors) in physical/social environment that produce feelings of tension and strain
Stages of Stress
General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS)
1 - Alarm Stage (fight or flight) - immediate reaction producing hormonal changes, increased HR, BP, and RR
2 - Resistance - Body tries to adapt by lowering HR, BP, and RR but state of readiness stays (incase additional response to stress is needed)
3 - Exhaustion - Body maintains height of readiness over extended periods of time but negatively impacts a persons physical/mental health with potential long term implications

- Cultural/language Barriers
- Lack of healthcare access
- Discrimination
- Lack of acceptance
