1.1 History of Public Health Flashcards
Healthy People 2030
- Started in 1970
- Began by studying the correlation between lifestyle and health status
- Contains national health goals in a document called “Promoting Health and Preventing Disease Objectives”
- These goals are to define the nation’s health agenda, shape health policies, and measure progress.
Healthy 2030 Objectives
Mental Health Disorders
- Increase proportion of primary care visits where adolescents and adults are screened for depression
- This really resonated with me because mental health issues can affect everyone and it’s one of the issues that I personally think gets the least amount of attention and is least reported by people who have it. When people have mental health issues it can be hard for them to take care of themselves as well and that can lead to other physical issues.
National Prevention Strategy
- Released in 2011 as part of the affordable care act (lower healthcare costs, improve quality of care, facilitate healthcare coverage for the uninsured)
- Focuses on prevention
The Strategy
- Healthy and safe community environments (Injury free living, Violence free living, Tobacco free living)
- Clinical and community preventative services (preventing drug abuse, preventing excessive alcohol)
- Elimination of health disparities (Active living, healthy eating)
- Empowered people (Mental and emotional well being, Reproductive and sexual health)
