Q
How do you test for a lipid
A
- Put a few drops of each sample into its own labelled test tube and add 2cm3 of ethanol shaking thoroughly
- add 2cm3 of distilled water, shake gently
- Record observations and conclusions: p/n, Holding the test tube on a white tile

Q
Explain why you can’t see false positives for proteins or carbohydrates in lipids test
A
Proteins and carbohydrates do not dissolve in ethanol so cannot form a precipitate
