What is the definition of paraphilia (from DSM-5)?
Paraphilia denotes any INTENSE & PERSISTENT sexual interest, other than sexual interest in genital stimulation or preparatory fondling with phenotypically normal, physically mature, consenting human partners
What is a paraphilia DISORDER
To be diagnosed with a paraphilia disorder DSM-5 people with paraphilia interests must:
- feel personal distress about their interest (not merely distress relating from society’s disapproval
OR
- have a sexual desire or behavior that involves another person’s psychological distress, injury or death or a desire for sexual behavior involving unwilling persons or persons unable to give legal consent

- Paedophillia
- Voyerism
- Exhibitionism
- frotterism
- sadism (causing pain)
- fetishism (H L)
- masochism (receiving pain) H L
- transvestic (H L)

What are Chronophilias?
A term used by psychologist John Money to describe varying forms of romantic preference and or sexual fixation limited to individuals of particular age ranges .
Name 4 different chronophilias
- Paedophilla. Sexual preference for prepubescent children (aged 13 or younger)
- Nepiophilia (or infantophilia) a sub type of paedophilia. Sexual preference for infants & toddlers aged 0-3 or under 5
- Hebephilia. Sexual preference in 11 - 14 pubescents
- Ephebophilia. Strong & persistent sexual interest in those in later adolescence (approximately 15-19 years old).
These terms are separate from any legal issues, they just define the sexual interest
