9 marker plan for tudeley village Flashcards
P1 (social)
Only 2800 homes over a period of 30 years
Figure 3: Large proportion of these houses will be affordable helping to tackle growing crisis of two expensive housing in the UK
UK - 162,000 houses built in 2019 which were unaffordable (Figure 1)
-> good as in figure 3 it highlighted that affordable housing is a component of a sustainable settlement
P1 counter point (social)
Railway station won’t be built until 1900 houses completed -> Increasing congestion
Adds to the already congested B2017 road
Air pollution and travel times will also increase going against components of a sustainable settlement as highlighted in Figure 3 suggesting that the plan to stop the development was a good idea
P2 (economic and environmental)
Tudeley village is a commuter settlement as highlighted in Figure 3 allowing people to commute into London avoiding higher prices of property and low air quality of the city whilst still having access to high paying jobs in London -> increasing SOL of locals and leading the positive multiplier effect.
Creating local economic growth in Tudeley
P2 counter point (economic and environmental)
However commuter settlement was built on greenfield land decreasing local biodiversity in the area.
The job opportunities are also not sustainable as it says that local job opportunities are a factor of a sustainable settlement.
Just above the High Wead an area of outstanding natural beauty which could be damaged by urban sprawl.
Figure 1 and building on greenfield sites (4000ha of countryside is built on every year)
However, no development on the floodplain + solar electricity is generated
-> decreasing environmental impact and enhanced GHG effect
Conclusion
Overall Tudeley development plan being cancelled was a positive.
