What is Design Development?
Integration of services requirements, structural requirements, materials and construction systems
What considerations are there to do with the Brief in DD?
Continually updated, reviewed to reflect project scope
Use of room data sheets, area briefs
Client feedback from SD
Authority feedback from DA
How do you organise your drawings in DD?
Establish a drawing list so set of documents can be completed for DD that covers all key sections, plans, elevations and any particular details
Resource allocation - review to ensure drawings can be completed in programmed time frame
What do you need to consider about Materiality in DD?
Research
Make decisions relating to materials
Selections of fittings/fixtures (keep on file for completion of specification later)
What is involved in Consultant/Client Meetings in DD?
Architect usually chairs & minutes
To brief and coordinate consultants
Fortnightly or Monthly
What considerations are there about Program in DD?
Review & ensure on track, have ability to meet future deadlines
How do you maintain Project Cost Control in DD?
Continually liaise with QS to ensure selections/systems are within budget
(If no QS, at end of DD get another ballpark estimate from builder)
What happens at the end of DD?
Client Signoff - Instruction to proceed to CD
