9 month milestones
Gross Motor: Pulls to stand, creeping.
Fine Motor: radial-digital grasp, bangs cubes
Personal/Social: Uses sound to get attention, follows a point, recognizes familiar voices. May have stranger anxiety.
Cognitive:
Language: Imitates sounds, babbles, may say words like “mama” but no specific meaning
Problem Solving: rings a bell
When do you administer the ASQ?
at 9 mo visit
What do you do if there is a significant delay (33% or more) in one or more areas of the ASQ?
refer to regional center
If there are signs of a deficit that is less severe on ASQ you can advise what?
advise on exercises and re-screen at a shorter interval.
12 month milestones
Gross Motor: Stands well, independent steps
Fine Motor: Scribbles, Two cube tower, Fine Pincer grasp
Personal/Social: Shows objects to parents to share interest
Cognitive:
Language: Says first word, points to get objects
Problem Solving: Lifts lid to find a toy
When are babies able to transition to a more solid diet?
12 mo
*also transitions from breast milk to 20-24 oz of whole milk per day. 2% milk if has a high risk for obesity
When do infants usually get their first tooth?
at 6 months, usually a bottom central incisor
When should tooth brushing start?
Once teeth have erupted, use fluoridated tooth paste.
*fluoride varnish can be applied every 3-6 months
Why should bottle usage and bottle propping be avoided when teeth are erupting?
to prevent damage to teeth
What labs do you order at 12 month wcc visit?
check for anemia and lead
Tx for anemic child
Start ferrous sulfate 4-6 mg/kg/day. Can be taken with orange juice. Dairy products can inhibit absorption.
