8.8 - Projectile motion 2 Flashcards
1
Q
what is projectile-like motion
- what word describes this motion
A
motion where an object experiences a constant acceleration in a different direction to its velocity
- Parabolic
2
Q
give 2 examples of projectile-like motion
A
- path of a ball rolling across an inclined board, ball curves down the board in a parabolic motion
- path of a beam of electrons going through 2 oppositely charged parallel plates. e- accelerated constantly to the +ve plate. parabolic path is produced since there’s 0 acceleration of the motion parallel to the plates but a constant acceleration of the perpendicular motion
3
Q
object projected into the air, with speed u at angle Ø
- equations to calc horizontal and vertical displacement
- comparing a graph of gravity ‘on’ & ‘off’ on a vertical-horizontal motion graph
A
Horizontal s = utcosø
Vertical s = utsinø
Gravity on , vertical s = utsinø - 0.5gt2 [s= ut + o.5at2]
4
Q
How to calc the impact velocity of a projected object
A
calculate horizontal and vertical velocity
- convert them into components to form a right-angled triangle of velocity
- use Impact v2 = horizontal v2 + vertical v2
