Q

give 2 examples of projectile-like motion

A
 • path of a ball rolling across an inclined board, ball curves down the board in a parabolic motion
 • path of a beam of electrons going through 2 oppositely charged parallel plates. e- accelerated constantly to the +ve plate. parabolic path is produced since there’s 0 acceleration of the motion parallel to the plates but a constant acceleration of the perpendicular motion

Q

object projected into the air, with speed u at angle Ø

 • equations to calc horizontal and vertical displacement
 • comparing a graph of gravity ‘on’ & ‘off’ on a vertical-horizontal motion graph
A

Horizontal s = utcosø

Vertical s = utsinø

Gravity on , vertical s = utsinø - 0.5gt2 [s= ut + o.5at2]

Q

How to calc the impact velocity of a projected object

A

calculate horizontal and vertical velocity

 • convert them into components to form a right-angled triangle of velocity
 • use Impact v2 = horizontal v2 + vertical v2
