Transponders
Processing Equipment
Related Antenna Systems
IFF modes
Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) and Combat Direction System (CDS)
Receives data from ship’s sensors and other ships using tactical data links

Tactical Data Link (TDL)
Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) approved and standardized comms link used for transmitting tactical data among military platforms.
Provides encrypted, near real-time information

Uses a half-duplex, netted comms. system that operates on the HF and UHF bands to exchange tactical data among participants
OPTASK LINK includes:
List of Primary and Secondary Frequencies
Net Control Station (NCS)
Gridlock Reference Unit (GRU)
Initial Data Link Reference Point (DLRP)
Picket Units (PU)
Net Control Station
Only one NCS who controls the Link-11 Net and provides interrogations for all participants.
The node that controls the traffic
Picket Unit (PU)
Units designated by the OPTASK LINK to transmit and receive tactical information in roll call mode

Data Link Reference Point
Common reference point in lat/lon which all Link-11 participants use
Gridlock Reference Unit
Acts as a common frame of reference that facilitates each ship maintaining correlation and gridlock across the Strike Group
Net Sync
Consisting of a series of preambles, operators use Net Sync as the first step in verifying RF connectivity between units.
TIC starts and stops Net Sync
Net Test
Second step in verifying connectivity.
TIC operators also use Net Test to check and set line levels
