Q

describe WBS step in creating a schedule

A

WBS - a work breakdown structure is a breakdown of all the works required to complete a task in a programme. This is done in order to identify the required resources needed to complete the package of works so the PM can allocate accordingly. This is noted in the development phase of the project lifecycle once scope has been finalised by the sponsor of the project. From there, the WBS can be used to develop a schedule in terms of how long tasks will last in respect to the resources available for that specific WBS.

Q

describe Gant chart step in creating a schedule

A

Gant chart - a gnat chart is a network of multiple WBS which may have preceding dependencies that need to be completed before another WBS can start. This is typically put together after the WBS have been identified and clarified within the development phase of the project lifecycle. These are reviewed frequently by the PM in order to maintain schedule and cost with the allocated resources available. A gnat chart is typically produced electronically through programme such as MS project which can aid in the updating of schedules throughout the project lifecycle
