what is request in the CC process
Request - in this step, the sponsor or member of the project team collates information regarded in the need for a change to the original scope. this may be due unforeseen circumstances arising during the project which affect the viability of the projects deliverables.
what is evaluate in the CC process
Evaluate - this step requires a breakdown of the requested change from the project team members or stakeholders. This is where resource, schedule and cost impacts will be discussed in detail to deem the change suitable for achieving the projects deliverables.
what is implement in the CC process
implementation - this step is where the identified risk has been evaluated and action plan has been formulated by the PM. This helps deliver the change in a controlled way allowing for better integration into the projects delivery.
benefits of request in CC process
Its beneficial to request these changes as early as possible in order to develop a mitigation plan to maintain the projects fitness for purpose. This can help align project team members as formal changes create transparency in the reasons for change, making it easier to understand and communicate. This procedure also helps in governing the projects and prevent costly ad hock changes that disrupt the projects schedule. Typically, formal changes are more commonly made during the deployment phase as scope is defined during conception and definition phases.
benefits of evaluate in CC process
This helps make informed decisions as to whether the change is necessary or is viable given the current status of the project. This can help reduce the risk of the project from a time perspective as changes are weighted against the projects schedule. this also helps prevent scope creep to maintain the projects deliverables. This step again is typically seen during the deployment phase
benefits of implementation in CC process
As the change is being implemented, it also help the project maintain its fitness for purpose by maintaining the success of achieving the projects deliverables. Further assessment can also be made if the change has also caused any further risk to the project, allowing the PM to evaluate and monitor accordingly. As these are typically as result of changed made in deployment, implementation is seen in the deployment phase of the project
Name 2 things that are needed to understand scope
Time
Cost
Time (what)
an important factor in defining the scope of a project is the time available in which the project can or has to be completed by. For example, if a business requires new office space to accommodate growing staff numbers then there would be a definite end date to which the project has to be completed b
Time (Benefits)
It is important that the PM is given a suitable timeframe to complete the project in so that the deliverables set out in the business case are achievable within the given time frame. This helps prevent the business case having to be amended along with the sponsor to change scope, which could lead to the project no longer being viable and stopped.
Cost (what)
another important factor is cost. The overall project budget would have been baselined in the concept phase of the project lifecycle by the sponsor.
Cost (benefits)
This is done so that the sponsor can have a overview of the capex needed to deliver the deliverables set out in the business case. This makes sure that the project maintains its viability to the sponsors organisation and is able to justify the spend on the project. understanding cost also helps prevent the likelihood of scope creep which can drive up costs of a project if not monitored correctly.
