The Catholic Church had been steadily battling the opposition for over four hundreds years.
Catholic reformation or counter reformation was the catholic answer to Protestantism.

A
- Catholics had been concerned with the state of their church long before the reformation and were especially worried about things like
Clerical greed, sale of indulgences, ignorance and superstition, simony and pluralism.
