8 - RESPONSE TO DIM LIGHT Flashcards
What are the three types of neurone?
Sensory, motor, relay
What is a sensory neurone?
Sensory neurones transmit impulses from receptors to the central nervous system (CNS) - the brain and spinal cord
What is a motor neurone?
Motor neurones transmit electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
How do the eyes of mammals respond to dim light/bright light?
1) The light receptors (photoreceptors) in the eyes detect the lack of light/bright light
2) This information is sent along the sensory neurones to the CNS
3) The CNS processes the information
4) The appropriate information as response to the dim light/bright light is sent along the motor neurones to the radical muscles/circular muscles
5) The radical muscles contract to dilate your pupils/ The circular muscles contract to constrict your pupils
Knowing this, outline how a stimulus is detected and a response is given?
1) Stimulus detected by receptors
2) This is sent by the sensory neurones to the CNS
3) CNS processes the information
4) The response is sent along the motor neurones to the effectors
5) an appropriate response is given
