Q

CLIMATE CHANGE
NATURAL CAUSES
FOUR
& 2 Signs

A
  • Volcanic eruptions - plumes of ash reflect solar energy
  • Asteroid cooling theory - dust particles from asteroids similar effect
  • Sunspot theory - more solar energy
  • Orbital change theory - (Milankovitch) Either oval orbit or changing tilt to vary seasons

Q

Why are tropical rainforests more likely to have high biodiversity than a deciduous wood?
What is one reason the biome might be levelling out between the two?

A
  • Perfect conditions for rapid photosynthesis - high temperature, high rainfall.
  • Plants grow quickly
  • Animals have more to feed on and they thrive.
  • Plants and animals decompose quickly which means fast nutrient cycling.
  • Deciduous woodland have the opposite - not much sunlight, slow growth, animals have less to feed on.
  • Deciduous wood decompose slower - slower nutrient cycling.
    HOWEVER
  • Deforestation of tropical rainforest is impacting biome, whereas deciduous woodlands are being conserved better.

FOUR

A
  • NGO development focuses on local needs, they consult the locals.
  • Their approach is more affordable for poorer communities/ less construction.
  • Not introducing overly complex tech that the locals don’t know how to use or repair.
  • These projects have less of an impact on the environment as they are smaller scale.
