Describe the typical house
Were made of clay bricks or stones held together with mud and straw. Typically one room with a dirt floor which contained a table, a spinning wheel and a wooded bowl for measuring grain. There were no windows so an olive-oil lamp burnt all day. At the far end of the house, a cave shelters your goat and donkey
Describe the typical family.
Typically large family.
Describe the typical father.
Father would be a farmer, craftsmen, or fisherman who had a beard and large brown eyes. You and your mother were considered to be his property
Describe the typical mother.
Mother cooks outside, grinding grain and making bread. She is not allowed to know how to read or write but could memorize Scripture.
Describe the typical child.
Boy - went to synagogue school when you are taught to read and write and your father teaches you his trade
Girl - your mother prepares you to be a good wife. You hope to have many sons. Your parents will arrange your marriage and you may not see your husband until your weeding day
What does life revolve around?
prayer and religious celebrations
What language do you speak?
Aramaic but you also know some Hebrew for prayer and Greek
