7L18 VFR Aircraft Flashcards
Release the aircraft from the current frequency without specifying another frequency when ______
Direct communication using VHF/UHF voice with the aircraft is no longer required or possible
Any VFR aircraft intending flight within the YWG TCA must file at minimum a ______
“Class C Intent” with Winnipeg ACC ATOS. This allows ATC to have basic flight information available in CAATS and reduces workload.
Resolve conflicts involving VFR aircraft by applying one of the following forms of separation: (4)
- Visual separation
- A minimum of 500 feet vertical separation, or more if additional separation is required for wake turbulence
- Target resolution as detailed in ATS Surveillance Separation Conditions
- Another minimum described in ATS Surveillance Separation Conditions
You may vector a VFR aircraft that is in, or is about to enter, airspace where ATS surveillance service is provided to VFR aircraft and any of the following apply: (3)
- The pilot requests it.
- You suggest it and the pilot accepts it.
- You consider it necessary for flight safety.
Accepting a vector does not relieve a pilot of a VFR aircraft from responsibility of any of the following: (3)
-Avoiding other aircraft
-Avoiding flight in IMC
-Maintaining adequate obstacle clearance
Only vector VFR aircraft in class G airspace if:
Required for flight safety
If necessary for separation, you may assign or suggest an altitude to a VFR aircraft to apply separation from: (3)
- A specific airspace
- A specific IFR or VFR traffic flow
- Other aircraft
You may vector an aircraft into Class G airspace if:
You inform the pilot and obtain the
pilot’s approval
SVFR (special VFR flight)
A visual flight authorized by an ATC unit to operate within a control zone under meteorological conditions that are below visual meteorological conditions
Requirements for SVFR:
- Flight visibility is not less than:
o One mile, where the aircraft is not a helicopter; or
o One-half mile, where the aircraft is a helicopter; - The aircraft is operated clear of cloud and with visual reference to the surface at all times; and
- Authorization to do so has been requested and obtained from the appropriate air traffic control unit.
Flight plans are required for all VFR flights unless _______
The entire flight will be conducted within 25 NM of the departure airport
If a VFR aircraft asks us to open or close a flight plan, or wants to change some aspect of one we _______
Instruct them to do it with Flight Services on 123.25
VFR weather minima
- The aircraft is operated with visual reference to the surface;
- Flight visibility is not less than three miles;
- The distance of the aircraft from cloud is not less than 500 feet vertically and one mile horizontally; and
- Where the aircraft is operated within a control zone:
o When reported, ground visibility is not less than three miles, and
o Except when taking off or landing, the distance of the aircraft from the surface is not less than 500 feet.
Reasons a pilot may want to fly CVFR (above 12,500)
- The aircraft will operate more efficiently above 12 500 feet, but the pilot or the aircraft is not certified for IFR flight.
- The aircraft has lost its IFR certification due to equipment failure
A person operating an aircraft in VFR flight in Class C and D airspace shall ensure that (2)
- The aircraft is equipped with radio communication equipment capable of two-way communication with the appropriate ATC unit, and a transponder and automatic pressure altitude reporting equipment (when in transponder designated airspace); and
- A continuous listening watch is maintained by a flight crew member on a radio frequency assigned by ATC.
CYWG Circuit Altitude
2000 ASL
You may vector an aircraft into Class G airspace if:
You inform the pilot and obtain the
pilot’s approval
