7L20 Other VFR Operations Flashcards
CYA 408 Active Dates and Time
April 1 - December 31, continuous daylight
Three Gliding Club extensions
- Main Area
- Extension A (when activated includes CYA 408 airspace)
- Extension B (usually only activated in conjunction with Extension A)
Maximum altitudes that may be requested at CYA 408
-8000 ASL weekdays, 12,500 ASL weekends and holidays
Gliding Club frequency
123.4
General parameters for approving altitudes at CYA408(s)
Extension Area A - max 6000 on weekdays, 8000 on weekends/holidays
Extension Area B - normally don’t approve on weekdays, only approve on weekends if RWY 36 is not active (max 6000)
*Allow space between the cap of all gliding airspace and current/forecast ceiling for VFR transit
To operate outside of CYA408, a glider requires workload permits and the following: (4)
- An altimeter
- An airspeed indicator
- A magnetic compass or a magnetic direction indicator
- A radio communication system adequate to permit two-way communication on the appropriate frequency when the glider is operated within Class C airspace
General altitude for surveillance operations
5500 VFR
*try not to vector
WPS Aircraft and Airport
Fly a C182 (C-GKMD) and usually arrive and depart at CYAV
To a balloon, what weight category are all aircraft?
Heavy (1000 ft separation required)
UFB (unoccupied free balloon)
A lighter-than-air, non-power-driven, and unoccupied aircraft that is in free flight
Lateral and Vertical Separation required for a UFB
Lateral (includes DND-NWS) - 10 miles
Lateral (w/o DND-NWS) - 5 miles
Vertical - 5000 ft above and below
When an aircraft is conducting a flight check of a NAVAID, you may:
- Assign an altitude inappropriate to the direction of flight.
- Assign a block altitude, provided that the procedures for Block Altitude are followed.
- Approve an altitude between the MEA and the MOCA.
- Clear a non-RVSM flight-check aircraft into RVSM airspace during the part of the flight when the flight check is being conducted
