7_ family influence on self Flashcards
#1 different stages of cognitive development based on Piaget’s theory. #2 Describe the different stages of Erik Erikson’s Epigenetic Stages of Development. #3 Given a unique scenario, apply the stages of cognitive development and/or epigenetic stages of development to determine an individual’s stage of development and whether it follows the normal age for that level of development.
Jean piaget theory of cognitive develemont
Sensorimotor stange 0-2 years
- interacitn with enviroment
- exploring movement and senses
- egocentric
- object permanence
- differentiates self from objects
- recognizes self as agent of action and gegins to act intentionally
Adapting through assimilation and accommodation
who said this?
what stage?
Assimilation: process by which a person takes material into their mind from the environment, which may mean changing the evidence of their senses to make it fit.
Accommodation: difference/change made to one’s mind, schema, paradigm, worldview, understanding, or concepts by the process of assimilation.
Piaget
1st sensori motor
Second stage of jean piaget
Preoperational stage 2-7
- concrete and physical understanding
- motor skills develop alot
- can categorize based on characteristic
- start to use language and recall names
- still very egocentric
Third stage of thrid stage according to jean piaget
Concrete operation stage 7-11
- logial thought process about concrete events
- abstract thoughts and understanding, but not completly still very complely
- high accomidation leel with logcal thought about physical experence and memory
Fourth stage of jean piaget
Formal Opperational stage 11 +
- develop abstract reasoning
- develop and test hypotheses systematicy
- regard others word views and ideas
thinking about others/ having empathy is not ennate
?What did greud say
made observation that neurotic conflict was not much different that normally developing children develop. Throught these conflict the kid develops [sychology and pshyosexuallly.
For normal development these conlicts must be resolved.
Erik Erilson development theories
- epigenetic stages of development
- it is the enviroment around the kid that affects how they develop.
- everything surounding
Erikson 1st stage of development
- trust vs. mistrust (0-12 month)
- physcial comfort, lack of fear and uncertanity–> trust
- maternal relationship and bond impt for trust
- social interaction revolve around self and body
- those whose early frusterations was never compensated for may have a radical disturbance in their relationship with the world
- horzintal compensation.giving kids what they could not get naturally ( breastfeeding , holding , rocking, smiling and looking at
What is horixontal compensation and what are some examples?
giving toddler wiht what they naturally couldnt get.
breastmilk, holding, rocking, smiling and looking at
Erikson 2nd stage
- AutonomyVs. shame and douby (2-4 years)
- independence vs. dependence
- exploration very important for autonomy
- pushing envelope for control
- over-controll–> shame & doubt
- potty training
“his enviroment must back him up in his wish to “stand on his own feet” lest he be overcome b that sense of having exposed himself prematuraely and foolishly which we call shame. or the seconday muscturst that ‘double take’ which we call doubt”
who said this and during what stage?
erikson 2nd stage
Erikson stange 3
- initiative vs. Guilt (4-5)
- imagination developing
- competition initiates
- companionship importnat
- increase in gender idenification and intrest in genitalia
- conscience devloping through interaction and adult treatment
- battle between intrusice mode and inclusive mode
How do intrusive and inclusive mode differ?
and in what stage of who?
- intrusice mode- physical attack, aggressive talk, high curiosity
- inclusive mode- experiences of receptivity and tender identification.
erikson epiogenetic stage of development (3rd)
Erikson stage 4
industry vs. inferiority (6-11)
- creativity and constuctivism
- work vs. play
- only he who works can play- adult
- he who does not work cannt pla -child
- play is hte work of the child
- competition evoves
- social worth develops through reward from parent/teacher
- child stries for feelings of usefullness
- hence child play that is work related (playing house school, ect )
Erikson 5th stage
indentity vs. confusion (idenity diffusion) (12-18)
- realizing adult self
- separation from parents
- peer relations are more important
- worry about impany on and approval from society
- true accomplishment over false praises and condescending encourgament
- positie vs. negatitive identiy vs. identity diffusion
