7.8 Flashcards
Membrane trafficking
Formation and movement of vesicles. requires ATP
Basic steps of endocytosis
- The Plasma membrane folds inwards and creates a pocket for whatever molecules is being transported.
-The vesicle is pinched off of the cell membrane and into the cell
Endocytosis
The process of removing parts of the cell membrane and turning it into vesicles in order to transport molecules and proteins into the cell
Phagocytosis
A form of endocytosis where a cell membrane engulfs a large particle and degrades and releases into the cell
Phagocytosis steps
- Large particles become attached to the membrane
- particles are ingested and become a phagosome
- The phagosome fuses with lysosomes
- The enzymes from the lysosomes digest the particles
- The digested materials are releases from the cell
Pinocytosis
“fluid based endocytosis” Basic endocytosis, a continual process in all cells where liquid is captured by the cell membrane and taken into the cell by vesicles
Receptor mediated endocytosis
The targeting or specific proteins for endocytosis.
How are receptors for receptor mediated endocytosis formed
Receptors are synthesized by the endoplasmic reticulum and sent to the golgi apparatus where it is sent to the membrane.
Steps of receptor mediated endocytosis
- The molecule wanted by the receptor binds to it
-The molecule moves through the membrane to the clatherine coated pit
-The pit forms a vesicle, engulfing the receptor and molecules - The vesicles form with endosomes in the cell and release the coating
-The receptor is separated and transported back to the membrane
