74 Flashcards
What are the venous sinuses of the brain?
Venous sinuses of the brain are channels through which deoxygenated blood from the brain is drained into the internal jugular veins.
What is the function of venous sinuses?
Venous sinuses help in draining blood from the brain and reabsorbing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the subarachnoid space.
What is the superior sagittal sinus?
The superior sagittal sinus passes over the brain and drains into the confluence of sinuses.
What is the inferior sagittal sinus?
The inferior sagittal sinus runs along the basal edge of the falx cerebri and drains into the straight sinus.
What do the transverse sinuses drain into?
The transverse sinuses drain from the superior sagittal sinus and drain into the sigmoid sinuses.
What is the straight sinus formed by?
The straight sinus is formed when the inferior sagittal sinus and the great cerebral vein join together.
What veins drain the blood of the cerebellum and brainstem?
Blood from the cerebellum and brainstem is drained through veins such as the inferior petrosal sinus.
What complications can occur from thrombosis of the dural sinuses?
Thrombosis of the dural sinuses can lead to severe complications like cerebral infarction and increased intracranial pressure.
What symptoms can cerebral venous thrombosis cause?
Cerebral venous thrombosis can lead to headache, vision changes, and seizures.
