67. IV VENTRICLE Flashcards
What is the fourth ventricle?
The fourth ventricle occurs at the brainstem, between the cerebellum and pons. It is diamond or tent-shaped and adds to CSF circulation.
What openings does the fourth ventricle contain?
The fourth ventricle contains three openings: the median aperture (of Magendie) and the lateral apertures (of Luschka).
What does the fourth ventricle contain?
The fourth ventricle contains the choroid plexus, which contributes to the production of CSF.
What can happen if there is an impediment or blockade in CSF flow?
Impediment or blockade of the CSF flow, such as by a tumor or malformation of the cerebellum, can lead to hydrocephalus, a build-up of CSF that raises intracranial pressure.
