Language
Make your resume as concise as possible. A good rule of thumb: a
one-page resume is ideal for an entry-level candidate and a two-
page resume is good for an experienced applicant.
Length
Remember, your resume speaks for your qualifications and unique
brand. Employers and recruiters are interested in hiring people who
can make a big difference in their organizations.
Compelling Content
A well-organized should look professional and easy to skim. This
will make a positive first impression on the one reading it. Each
section must be substantiated with relevant information and specific
content.
Professional Appearance
Choose professional and readable fonts in your resume. Also, keep
the font size at 10-12 points but increase the font size of your name
so that it can be read easily.
Font and Style
Use consistent spacing, underlining, italics, bold, and capitalization
to keep each section uniform. Leave adequate margins on all sides
of your document. Use laser printer paper with at least 80-100 gsm
instead of thin paper.
Format
Pay careful attention to spelling, punctuation, tenses, vocabulary,
and grammar. Proofread your work before sending it to your
prospective employer.
Editing
Remember, your resume reflects your personality. If you are not
confident, find someone to check your resume. Of course, include
only factual information in your resume. Do not invent any
information.
Accuracy
Employers usually look for people who will become valuable
members of the organization. It is important to highlight your
necessary personal traits and skills that will help you ace the
position.
Skills Matter
We have two kinds of skills-
Hard and Soft
are abilities and skills that you have acquired
through life experiences and proper training.
Hard Skills
are natural traits that you have personally possessed.
These are necessary to create a positive and functional work
environment in the workplace.
Soft Skills
The resume is a formal document that requires formal language and
presentation. Use active rather than passive statements. Use specific
words to convey your message. Avoid using abbreviations and a
narrative style in writing your resume. Don’t write in the third
person but don’t overuse the personal pronoun “I”.
