Chief Engineer (CHENG)

A

Responsible for the safe and proper operation of the engineering plant to the CO
Ship’s Damage Control Officer (DCO)
Personally supervises EOOW for special evolutions (MPA may also supervise in absence of CHENG)
Ensures organization, training and qualification of the Engineering Training Team (ETT) and DCTT are current and effective
Acts as final PQS qualifier for all Engineering quals (except EOOW; CO is final)
Responsible for performance of all evolutions, inspections and repair work in Engineering Department

Principal Assistants (PAs)

A

Conduct frequent inspections of assigned spaces to ensure proper cleanliness, preservation, stowage, and material readiness
Keep CHENG informed of material condition of systems and equipment
Ensure proper operation & maintenance of their systems and equipment
Supervise training and qualification of cognizant watch standers and divisional personnel
Assist the DCA in ensuring accuracy, periodic validation and revision of the space mechanical and electrical isolation lists
Ensure proper administration of all programs and updating of cognizant instructions

Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA)

A

In absence of CHENG, supervise the EOOW during special evolutions
Responsible for the proper care and stowage of fuel and lube oil onboard
Supervises and reviews the Engineering Log, Bell Log, Data Log and operating logs DAILY!

Damage Control Assistant (DCA)

A

Prevents and controls battle damage
Supervises placing the ship in the material readiness condition of closure ordered by CO
Prepares and maintains bills for control of damage, stability and Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense (CBR-D) readiness
Ensures CCOLs are kept current and properly posted by DIVOs
Administers DCl PQS Program

A

A

Oil/Water King

A
  • Senior Enlisted (E6-E9)
  • The Oil and Water King is the primary operator, tester and record keeper for all actions involving: F-76/F-44; main, auxiliary, and waste heat boilers; and feed, condensate, diesel jacket and fresh water
  • The Oil and Water Kings are responsible for handling, testing, and treating fuel oil, lube oil, and all types of water

Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW)

A
  • CPO, PO, or Officer on watch in charge of the ship’s entire engineering plant.
  • Responsible for safe and proper operation of the plant and duties listed
    -Executes OOD’s Orders
    -Notifies Appropriate Personnel of Casualties
    -Ensures Training is Conducted on Watch Team
    -Ensures Tag-Out Log is Properly Maintained
  • Maintains logs and records
  • Directs operation of engineering plant IAW EOSS
  • Tours spaces prior to taking the watch
  • Ensures all samples are taken and tested
  • Correct hazardous conditions in the plant
  • Monitors and maintains Combat Systems Support
  • Prior to a special evolution, the EOOW will brief respective personnel involved in the evolution on:
    -Proper procedures
    -Safety precautions
    -ORM
    -Important parameters to be monitored
