7 Structure and transport tissues Flashcards
1
Q
Draw the position of the xylem and phloem in the root cross section, Stem cross section and leaf cross section
A

2
Q
Stat how the xylem vessels are adapted for transporting water
A
The cells that make up the xylem are adapted to their function
They lose their end walls so the xylem forms a continuous, hollow tube allowing water and minerals to pass throught eassely
3
Q
How are phloem cells adapted to transport sugars?
A
Sieve tubes - specialised for transport and have no nuclei
Each sieve tube has a perforated end so its cytoplasm connects one cell to the next
